Lightwave Logic is actively developing high speed electro-optic modulators for the emerging 40Gb/s telecom and 100Gb/s datacom markets. Electro-optic modulators control the speed of information traffic for worldwide telecom, including the Internet, telephone, cable television and military systems. Top speed of telecom traffic today is primarily 10 Gb/s (10 billion bits of digital data per second). This speed will soon increase to 40 Gb/s.
The Electro-optic Modulator
An electro-optic modulator is simply a light valve. Electricity is used to turn on and off the valve in order to create a digital data stream composed of flashes of light.

Smaller, Faster, Cheaper
Lightwave's telecom material -base is designed for the production of faster, smaller and cheaper electro-optic modulators. Plastics are inherently less expensive to produce, and because they are easier to shape and mold, they can be integrated more easily into end products. Our Lightwave's materials are extremely high performance, therefore faster devices can be made even smaller than the previous generation of devices.
